Client Problem:
When 3M had implemented the People Soft System across multiple departments it also invested in the development of custom information modules for delivery over the web using the IntranetU learning management system. Due to recent update-release of the People Soft software, which resulted in the modification of many screens, 3M needed to modify its information transfer program to reflect the new application. The previous method of development proved to be far too expensive to use for module updates and revisions. 3M needed a faster, more cost effective way to implement changes to existing modules.
Solution:
Princeton Center for Education Services designed, developed and delivered a software-transfer model, which allowed the technical writers at 3M to make draft new modules reflecting the software updates. The software-transfer model used MS-Word Templates to capture the transfer information and allowed the technical writers to mark the content easily and to rapidly generate revised lessons. All lessons created with this tool-set had the look-and-feel of the original (custom programmed) lessons and ran under the IntranetU learning management system. The end users could not distinguish between updated lessons and the original lessons.
Summary:
Internet Delivery of Software Transfer for End-Users Consistent Access via the IntranetU LMS delivery Look and feel consistent with the original custom design Drastic reduction in the time to develop Browsers: Internet Explorer or Netscape 4.0 Studio quality audio, No video Instruction design: Tell-me, Show-me, and Guide-me Your browser may not support display of this image.
Financial Impact:
3M saved over 75% on the cost of updates and software transfer development. 3M licensed the tools and trained internal technical staff to support this function, saving the programming costs.
